Current-hand guide: Hit

The dealer shows a strong card. This total usually needs another card.

Dealer stands on every 17. Natural blackjack is settled before an ordinary 21.

How to play

Beat the dealer without going over 21. Aces count as 1 or 11.

Detailed rules

  1. 1.Card values: 2-10 face value, J/Q/K = 10, A = 1 or 11 (whichever helps).
  2. 2.Deal: player and dealer each get two cards.
  3. 3.Hit = take a card, Stand = stop. Going over 21 is an instant loss (bust).
  4. 4.The dealer must hit until reaching 17 or more.
  5. 5.A blackjack (A + 10-value in two cards) beats an ordinary 21.

Use probability to limit losses

Blackjack is not about predicting the next card. It is about repeatedly choosing the lower-loss action for your total and the dealer's upcard.

A single hand is noisy, but consistent hit and stand rules make results reviewable. Increasing a wager out of frustration is not strategy.

Origin & history

Blackjack descends from 18th-century French vingt-et-un ('twenty-one'), refined in American casinos into the world's most played casino card game.
