How to play
On each turn, choose between Move or Shoot. Moving 1 square in any direction reloads 1 shell (and captures enemy pieces stepped on). Shooting blasts pellets in one of 8 directions with knockback physics and shotgun recoil. Eliminating the White King clears the wave and unlocks upgrade cards.

Shotgun Chess is a tactical turn-based roguelike shooter inspired by the critically acclaimed indie hit 'Shotgun King: The First Scramble'. As the solitary Black King stripped of his court, you take up a shotgun to battle against the full might of the White Army.

Can shotgun recoil knockback be used for movement and dodging?
Yes! Firing your shotgun pushes your King backward 1 square in the opposite direction (if empty). This allows you to eliminate an approaching threat while simultaneously escaping attack range.
How should I handle running out of ammo during combat?
Every move action reloads 1 shell. If you run out of shells, move into an empty safe square or directly crush an isolated pawn to reload while keeping enemies at bay.
